We have 100 children and 6 hostel mothers. We call them hostel mothers and not guardians, teachers or matron because they play the role of the mother in the hostel. They don’t work 9AM to 5PM jobs. Their day begins when the first child opens their eyes as early as maybe 5 AM and ends when the last child falls asleep, maybe after 11PM. They stay up when a child is sick, they are in the hospital if the child needs to stay overnight, they are on the grounds playing with them, they are in the dining hall feeding them, they are patiently watching over them when they are having a melt-down. These are a very committed group who have committed themselves to the cause of the children physically, emotionally, spiritually, in every possible way. The children in turn are given an environment of that of a family, filled with love where everyone looks out for each other, argues with each other but at the end of the day, know that they are all there for each other. We celebrate all languages, festivals, food habits and religions. We try to incorporate the different cultures in our everyday activities and celebrations.
